US Based Legal Representation

Al Otro Lado’s U.S. Based Legal Representation represents immigrants in court proceedings on the detained and non-detained dockets and provides representation in affirmative cases before USCIS.  Our affirmative work includes: affirmative asylum, U Visa, T Visa, VAWA, SIJS, adjustment of status applications, family based petitions, DACA, and naturalization.  Through our non-detained work, we represent asylum seekers and survivors of violence in immigration courts throughout Southern California.

Through our detained work, we represent people detained at the Otay Mesa, Imperial, Adelanto, and Desert View detention centers in bond, parole, applications for relief before the immigration court, appellate representation before the BIA and Ninth Circuit, and habeas lawsuits before the Federal District Courts. Our objective is to help our clients obtain release from ICE prison, establish legal status, and access to housing, healthcare, and other essential services. Our Post-Release Coordinators help address the immediate and long-term needs of immigrants released from ICE detention.

Al Otro Lado provides direct representation clients with humanitarian support that includes short-term housing, food, clothing, and hygiene supplies, medical support, testing, quarantine, PPE, cell phones and service plans, and transportation.
